QT-5 Laser Aligner Cutting Machine — Automated Contour Cutting for Clear Aligner Production
The step where hand trimming costs you time, consistency, and remakes.
After thermoforming, every aligner has to be cut out of the sheet along its trim line. Done by hand, this is the slowest and most skill-dependent step in an in-house aligner workflow — and the source of most edge-quality complaints. Two technicians trim differently; the same technician trims differently at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The QT-5 removes that variability. It cuts the contour automatically with ≤ 0.01 mm precision and seals the edge with the same pass that cuts it.
Why a laser-cut edge skips the polishing step
Mechanical trimming leaves tool marks that have to be polished away. Laser cutting works differently: the beam melts through the film along the trim line, and the cut edge re-solidifies smooth and sealed. For most cases, the aligner goes straight from the QT-5 platform to final inspection — the polishing station becomes an exception, not a step. If you run our BL-100 polishing unit, the QT-5 takes the routine load off it.
Consistent output, whoever is on shift
Because the trim path comes from the design file rather than a steady hand, cut quality no longer depends on operator experience. That matters for a laboratory scaling production, and it matters even more for a dental practice where the person running the machine is a dental assistant, not a lab technician. Embedded intelligent control and an English touchscreen keep operation to load, confirm, and start.
Built for clinical and lab environments
The cutting chamber is fully enclosed behind a tinted laser-safety cover, with internal LED illumination so you can watch each cut in progress, and an emergency stop within reach. At 430 x 350 x 480 mm and 35 kg, the QT-5 is a true benchtop machine that sits next to your forming unit, not in a separate room.
Materials and applications
The QT-5 cuts the standard clear aligner and retainer films on the market — PETG, TPU, and similar thermoforming materials. Typical applications:
- Clear aligners (all treatment stages)
- Retainers (Essix-type)
- Sports mouthguards
Before you order — practical points buyers ask about
- Position in the workflow:the QT-5 runs after thermoforming and before finishing. It pairs directly with our QY-5 pressure forming machine.
- Air assist:the cutting head uses air assist during cutting. If your compressor already supplies the QY-5, ask our team whether it can serve both machines.
- Power:confirm voltage options for your country with our team before ordering.
- Safety:enclosed chamber, tinted laser-safety cover, and emergency stop are standard. No special room modifications are required.
- Training:operation training and ongoing technical support come from our own aligner production team — the same people who cut aligners every day.
Complete the line: P14 printer for models, QY-5 for forming, QT-5 for cutting, BL-100 for finishing. Four machines, one supplier, one support contact.

SSS
Q: What does the QT-5 do in clear aligner production?
A: It cuts the formed aligner out of the thermoformed sheet along the designed trim line, using a laser instead of manual trimming — with ≤ 0.01 mm cutting precision.
Q: Does a laser-cut aligner still need polishing?
A: In most cases, no. The laser seals the edge as it cuts, so the aligner comes off the platform with a smooth, finished edge. Polishing becomes an exception rather than a standard step.
Q: What materials can the QT-5 cut?
A: PETG, TPU, and other common clear aligner and retainer films.
Q: Is the QT-5 safe to use in a dental clinic?
A: Yes. The cutting chamber is fully enclosed behind a tinted laser-safety cover, with an emergency stop as standard. Operation is via an English touchscreen.
Q: Are QT5 and QT-5 the same machine?
A: Yes. QT5 and QT-5 are two spellings of the same Best Smile Tech laser aligner cutting machine.
Q: Can the QT-5 replace hand trimming entirely?
A: That is what it is designed for: the trim path comes from the design file, so cut quality no longer depends on operator skill, and output stays consistent across shifts and operators.
